Basketball Cake

I wanted to make a cake for my husband and I wanted the design to be something that he had in common with our son.

My husband used to play basketball and recently got the little one a basketball and hoop so I decided to make a basketball cake.

I made a chocolate fudge cake and did a chocolate ganache for the icing. I used buttercream icing for the piping. I don't know if this is the right way to do it, but for the last coat of the ganache I mixed a bit of the magnolia colored buttercream icing into the chocolate ganache to get that natural basketball court look, and I think it worked okay.

Both T-shirts were made from fondant and I used food color pens to do the markings on it.

This is the first time I've attempted any decorations on a cake. I know its not a very neat job, but i'm working on it. Thanks, and happy baking!
