Delicious Chocolate Cake Recipe
This delicious chocolate cake recipe is heaven on a plate!
Top it off with your favorite frosting and life just does not get any better!
What You'll Need for this Delicious Chocolate Cake Recipe:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 9" round baking pans or a 13 x 9 sheet pan.
Sift together the cocoa, flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Alternately beat in the flour mixture and the buttermilk, mixing just until combined. Add the boiling water and beat for one full minute.
Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool for 5 to 10 minutes, then remove from pans to
cool completely.
Variations:
- Like the flavor of coffee? Make this a mocha chocolate cake by substituting 1 cup hot coffee for the boiling water. Yum!
- Bake this cake in a bundt pan and top with chocolate ganache, powdered sugar, and fresh berries. (After greasing the pan, dust with cocoa powder
instead of flour).
- Don't have buttermilk? Try this instead: add one tablespoon of lemon juice to one cup of whole milk and let set for a few minutes.

This cake is delicious when topped with chocolate frosting.
