My sister loves frogs so this design was a perfect idea for her 30th birthday cake.
It's a simple 13" x 9" cake that was decorated with buttercream frosting.
The frog was put onto the cake by following these
step-by-step instructions for transferring an image onto a cake.
Piped starbursts and confetti dots give the cake a "party" feeling.
"Frame" the cake by piping a straight pink border around the top of the cake.
To finish the look, use white frosting to pipe rosettes around the top and bottom edges of the cake. Add yellow frosting dots to the center of each rosette.
Curling ribbon at the corners adds a festive touch.
This is one of my favorite frog cake designs!
The flowers take some time and patience to make, but otherwise the cake is fairly easy to create.
Use white buttercream frosting to frost and layer two 9" round cakes.
Sketch a heart shape onto the top of the cake using a toothpick.
Spread a layer of light green frosting onto the top of the cake, working around the heart shape.
Inside the heart shape, spread blue cake decorating gel to resemble water.
Now for the flowers...like I said, they are a bit tricky and require some patience. You will need pink lilies for the bottom border and white lilies for the lily pads,
as well as some pink drop flowers.
All of these things are made with royal icing, which hardens and allows you
to pick up the flowers and place them where you want to on your cake.
Wilton gives the best instructions for how to make these decorations, so follow their detailed instructions here:
How to make a royal icing lily.
How to make drop flowers.
You will also need to create the lily pads, which are done using green royal icing and decorating tip #104.
My recommendation is to make extras in case of breakage!
Use white frosting to pipe a ruffle border around the top and bottom edges of the cake, and to drap swags along the sides of the cake.
Use the picture of the cake as a guide for placing the flowers.
Add a frog cake topper to finish off your frog birthday cake design.
