Halloween Cupcake Ideas

halloween cupcake ideas

There are not many things cuter than these Halloween cupcake ideas!

I mean, seriously, are these little treats not some of the most adorable cupcakes you've ever seen?!

The werewolf idea came from an absolutely terrific book called Hello, Cupcake, and once I made those I couldn't stop.

The ghosts, skeletons, and spider webs are just the result of a decorating frenzy that couldn't be stopped. :)

Make these treats by following the instructions below, then prepare yourself for rave reviews of your cupcake creations!

Decorating Instructions for these Adorable Halloween Cupcake Ideas

Werewolf Cupcakes: For each werewolf cupcake you'll need 2 large marshmallows, 2 matching color M and M's, and a black jellybean. You'll also need one tub of vanilla frosting, two tubs of chocolate frosting, and red fruit roll-ups for 12 of these cute critters.
To make the ears, snip a marshmallow in half diagonally. For the muzzles, cut a 1/2 to 1-inch v-shaped notch from the end of a marshmallow. The size of the notch will determine the size of the mouth.
Attach the ears to the top sides of each cupcake with a dot of chocolate frosting.
Cut 1 to 2-inch ovals from the fruit roll-ups to fit the notched mouth openings and press into the notches of the muzzles to stick. Trim off any excess with scissors. Attach the muzzle just below the center of the cupcake with frosting.
Using a decorating bag, pipe several lines of chocolate frosting along the length of the ears to cover. Starting at the edge, pipe a 1/2-inch border around the cupcake by squeezing the bag, releasing the pressure, and pulling away from the center. Pipe another row inside the first, slightly overlapping the rows. Continue with this method, covering the cupcake and working your way up the marshmallow snout to the open mouth.
Press two M and M's of a matching color, at an angle, into the frosting to make glowing eyes.
Using a decorating bag fitted with a small tip, pipe vanilla frosting "fangs" all around the edge of the fruit roll-up using a squeeze and pull motion. Add a black jellybean, crosswise, for the nose.
Sit back and admire your masterpieces!

Skeleton and Ghost Cupcakes: These little cupcakes are really easy and lots of fun to make!
Draw a picture of ghost shapes and skeleton heads on an 8 1/2 by 11-inch piece of paper, being sure to make them small enough to fit on a cupcake. Place the paper on a cookie sheet and cover with waxed paper.

Using a decorating bag and melted white chocolate, pipe the outline of the template onto the waxed paper. Fill in the shape with the white chocolate, trying to be a uniform as possible.

For the skeletons, use a toothpick to create holes for the eyes and nose. Repeat this process until you have as many shapes as you'd like.

Put in the fridge for about 5-10 minutes to set.

Meanwhile, frost the cupcakes with chocolate frosting and roll the edges in chocolate or Halloween-colored jimmies.

Carefully peel the skeletons and ghosts from the waxed paper and stick them on top of the cupcakes. Use chocolate frosting to draw faces on the ghosts and a mouth on the skeletons. Cute as can be!
spider web cupcakes Spider Web Cupcakes: I know this isn't one of the most original Halloween cupcake ideas, but they're a holiday staple...and so simple that even the kids can make them! All you need to do is frost cupcakes with icing (I used green and orange for mine, but you can use just about any color that you'd like as long as it's not too dark).

With a small tube of black icing gel, squeeze a dot in the middle of the cupcake. Leaving a little bit of space, make a small circle around the dot, then make another ring around that circle, and one more ring around the second circle.

Stick a toothpick lightly into the dot of icing in the middle of the cupcake and pull in a straight line to the edge. Continue to do this around the entire cupcake to form a web. For a fun touch, add a plastic spider to your web cupcakes!
