Homemade Halloween Decorations
- Luminaries: Cut spooky messages or scary halloween images into one side of brown paper lunch bags. On the inside of the bag,
glue yellow or orange tissue paper over the cutout area. Add some stones or sand to the bottom of the bag to keep if from blowing over. Sit a battery-operated candle
on top. If you don't have a battery-operated candle, a candle in a glass votive can be used, just be sure that you don't leave the luminaries unattended.
- Cobwebs: Use
spider web netting to create cobwebs all over your house...on your porch, hanging from your light fixtures, along the windows...everywhere you can think of. Add a
few black plastic spiders for a creepy effect. You can also cut your own cobweb shapes out of paper. Use the same method that you would use to make paper snowflakes, just cut a web design instead. Unfold and
place around your party area. You can find a spider web template here.
- Scary Shadows: Cut small scary shapes out of black paper...bats, spiders, black cats, etc., and adhere to the inside of your
lampshades. When the lamp is turned on, scary shadows will cascade into your room!
- Spooky Silhouettes: Use a pumpkin carving stencil to copy a design onto black construction paper. Cut out the design.
Glue colored tissue paper to the back of the picture. Place on your windows, and come nightfall when you turn on your house lights, passers-by will see your
creations all aglow!
