Monkey Birthday Cake

They'll go bananas over this creative monkey birthday cake! It's a great cake to serve at a jungle party, and lots of fun for a hula monkey theme!

How to Make this Cake

You will need an oval shaped cake pan and a batch of cupcakes for this project.

You will also need to create a template for the monkey's face. If you've got an artistic flair, you can just sketch out a picture of what you want, but if you aren't very good at drawing, print a copy of this monkey balloon picture and enlarge it to the size of your oval cake.

Make two batches of buttercream frosting, then transfer your template design onto the cake by using a buttercream transfer.

Once your design is on the cake, "muss up" the darker brown frosting to give it a furry look.

Surround the cake with cupcakes, then pipe jungle green frosting in random designs over them. Pipe flowers throughout your green "jungle" to add a tropical feel.

Writing on this cake doesn't come out very well because the frosting is so uneven. For better results, tint melted white chocolate with the color of your choosing and pipe your letters with that. When they harden, place them in the frosting to spell your words.

Voila! You've got yourself a monkey cake that they are sure to love!
