Shrimp Jambalaya Recipe

This easy shrimp jambalaya recipe is a New Orleans favorite!

Whip up a big batch of this to serve at a Mardi Gras Party, or to jazz up your dinner menu.

Jambalaya Ingredients: mardi gras party

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped celery

  • 2 green peppers, cut into 1/4" strips

  • 2 onions, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme leaves

  • 1/2 lb. cooked ham, julienned

  • 1 3/4 cups chicken broth

  • 1 can (16 oz) diced tomatoes

  • 1 cup long grain rice

  • 1 tsp. sugar

  • 1 tsp. salt

  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

  • 1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce

  • 2 lbs. med. shrimp, shelled and deveined

  • How to Make Jambalaya:

    Heat oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add celery, peppers, onions, garlic, parsley, and thyme; cook until tender.

    Stir in ham, chicken broth, tomatoes, rice, sugar, salt, pepper, and hot pepper sauce. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Reduce heat to low. Cover; simmer 20 minutes.

    Stir in shrimp. Cook, uncovered, 8 to 10 minutes more or until rice is tender and all liquid is absorbed.

    Yield: 8 servings
