Train Cake

For my son's 2nd birthday I made him a train cake.

The cake itself was a "Classic Victoria" sponge cake with white chocolate ganache and buttercream frosting (cake recipe from Good Food Channel - Market Kitchen).

I used candy for the train cargo and train tracks. The best part was right after the cake cutting, when my son and all of his friends looted the train of its cargo (smarties and chocolate raisins).

I also put a passenger list with his friends' and close relatives' names on it to give it that personal touch.

A note from the party girl: The train cake pan (made by Nordic Ware) is available on eBay for less than you'd pay at the store. I recommend checking availability there before you head out shopping.
